This app works very well. Im an amateur astronomer and love using this app for finding objects and stars. Good to use with kids and even educational use with some adults. A must for anyone who loves astronomy.

I would consider SkySafari 4 the amateur astronomers astronomy app. It is the best of the best.
Great app. Like Starry Night in my hand
Many useful features. I especially use the "NOW" and "COMPASS" to see what is in the sky, where, and when. For example, grandkids are camping in the backyard tonight and I am setting up my telescope during the day for use tonight. This is a great tool to plan a viewing session. Added bonus - I have my telescope mount controller on my wireless network and I can select an object within this app and send a signal to my mount to "goto" the object and GO it DOES! This is good when you have an audience that might not appreciate the long, manual viewing sessions that you may occasionally prefer when getting there is half the fun and you dont use "Goto". I love holding my ipad up and seeing what I see in the sky on my screen and finding or identifying something. I highly recommend this app.
Been a long time user, but the app is currently broken with the iPhone 6s. Im unable to select an object. Multiple taps just bring up a distance measurement reading.
Simply the best. By telescope, for planning observations and photography.
This is one of the best astronomy apps I have ever used. It contains Sharpless catalogs which I frequently used image hydrogen Alpha objects it contains comet common names comets and The international space station. I am using the plus version of this application and it is absolutely fantastic. My favorite thing to do is dim the stars aim search the sky for deep sky objects that I have never image to before. This application allows you to select these deep sky objects and it lists their name and location. Before I used to Skyview pro I paid for it and about two years later it became a free app the entire time the app was a complete joke it could not hold a candle next to sky safari plus. Sky safari pro seems pretty cool but I could not justify spending $40 on the app. I am extremely happy with the performance of this app I plan to later purchase the Wi-Fi control unit.
Ive use this program several times and have compared it to the other 4-5 sky apps I have. Everything is well designed and easy to use. Well worth it.
This app is in a class by itself. Extremely well organized and intuitive but still includes a comprehensive manual. With or without a connected telescope one can enjoy its features and gain a lot of knowledge.
First serious astronomy app for iPad that replaces the classic Planetarium for Palm. R Spehn SD
Love the app. It makes finding whats up easy in urban skies and is fabulous in dark skies. Love to use it.
As an astronomy fan and astrophotographer, Ive looked at a lot of Astro apps and this is by far the best Ive seen! Intuitive, works great, and highly functional - definitely worth the price. I use it often to look into the future to plan detailed photo shoots.
Its an excellent app that I use To help my grandson to understand the planets and how they move in orbit
I had plans to buy a deep sky light bucket telescope. On the 40th anniversary of lunar landing I got my Sky Safari free. I have travelled all across the universe from the comfort of my home. I saw Mercury for the first time after trying for 65 years. The description of objects is the best textbook on astronomy with exemplary clarity of language. The bonus was to be able to see the planets at time of actual birth in the year of birth for myself and others. The speed at which the app recalculates Sky positions is incredible. The equations may not be too complex but there are a lot of objects. It even shows man made satellites in live motion which helps in viewing them. The current conjunction of Venus and Jupiter is even more revealing when I stepped one day ahead and back. Jupiter moves faster than Venus - not true, until I realized that it is the earth speeding by Jupiter that is responsible for the apparent motion. It is also clear that this conjunction is only in apparent line of sight from the earth speeding along at 23 km/sec. There is absolutely no astronomical significance to it - sorry astrologers!! Along with APOD, this is the Divya-chakshu vision shown in Bhagvad Gita available to all of us in the palm of our hands and always in our pockets! I dont miss the mosquitos and telescope setups, not to mention waiting for dew to dry while the clouds close in or the sun comes up!! This is a greater leap for Mankind (all included) than the landing on the moon.
I have been using this software for three months now. Except for a couple of caveats, I am very satisfied with it. Its a very capable software that does what it says it does. It simply works. I use this with an Orion StarSeek WiFi device attached to a Meade LX-90. Combined with an AVS DSO-1 Bluetooth astro camera, the whole setup allows me to "observe" from inside my house using a one-wire connection. The user interface is intuitive, and not overly complicated. The learning curve is very short that one or two sessions with it is enough to become adept with its usage. The product support is superb. I remember posting a question on one of the popular astro forum, and within an hour I got a reply from Bill Tschumy, SCCs principal software developer and also an avid amateur astronomer. (I couldve called their tech support, but it was already late, and I wasnt sure if it was an issue with Orion or SkySafari.) Another layer of support they have which I have just recently discovered is the Yahoo Users Group, and Bill is also very active there. Now for the two aforementioned caveats. The telescope slewing bar needs to have more variance especially bet between the second "gear" that is painfully slow, and the third "gear" that is abruptly fast. The alignment feature could be improved by using two- or three-star alignment instead of just one. Neither of this two are showstoppers, and take away anything substantial from the product. Overall, I find this software worth every penny. I would recommend it to anyone who would ask about it. Im giving this a 5-star grade for this reason, but realistically it should be 4.5 just to allow consideration for improvements.
I have and have tried many different apps but this one really gets it right. Very intuitive, feature rich, and visually pleasing.
Best app for fans of astronomy looking for lots of accuracy and ease of use.
By far, the best of all the sky map apps I have. I have been buying different sky apps in search for the perfect one. I think this is it! Easy to use, a perfect fit for beginners as well as advance astronomers. As an added bonus you can control your telescope with it as well!
I am by no means an astronomer but I use Sky Safari Plus for finding objects in the sky, identifying objects I see, and general information like moon phases. The images are spectacular and the aids for navigating the night sky are fantastic. With the addition of time control I can reproduce past and preview future events. I like this app so much, I bought the desktop version as well.
A complete astronomy library at my finger tips. And the telescope control is the greatest!!
